Our Impact

New church construction project under way.

80 % of Haitians are Roman Catholic, 16 % protestant and 4 % other. But almost all Haitian practice voodoo. MSH seeks to reinforce the Christian faith in Haiti by sharing the gospel with the children and greater community through church services, bibles studies and evangelism.  Our church is led by Pastor Claundert who has been with Starfish since the beginning.

A quality education is currently out of reach for most children in Haiti. Considering the 70% of Haitians who are unemployed and the 80% who are living in poverty, paying for education is simply not possible for families. Only 10% of school-aged children go onto high school and, on average, girls in Haiti attend just two years of school in their lifetime. Due to all of these factors, Haiti has one of the highest illiteracy rates in the world at 53%. The vision of MSH is to come alongside these children and support them by providing affordable and sustainable Christian schools. In addition, we desire to provide extracurricular activities such as girls empowerment, music, sewing, English and sports. We believe with extracurricular activities will help keep them in school. On October 1st, 2012, MSH was able to open a school for 172 students. As of 2021, The Starfish school ranges from kindergarten-12th grade with over 300 students. All of our teachers are locally trained teachers.

It’s a WELLNESS program for the children/families of Mission Starfish Haiti

  • Haiti has a very high infant mortality rate. More than 10% of Haitian children die before the age of five.
  • Many of the children in Haiti are unvaccinated and only 40% of the population has access to even basic healthcare. Source: UNICEF
  • StarfishCARE focuses on promoting healthy living by providing basic health care services to the students at Mission Starfish Haiti and, to the extent possible, to their families and the local community.

In the fall of 2015, for the first time, two Haitian-trained nurses started working at Mission StarfishCARE. With donations from caring individuals of cash, supplies, and medications, these nurses can now provide:

  • Basic First Aid
  •  Immunizations
  •  Medications
  •  Health education
  •  Health screenings
  •  Referrals to doctors or clinics

Vocational Training

“Give a man fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Since the beginning Starfish contemplated ways in which our students could get ahead, we considered the limited job market and wondered was their quality Christian education at Starfish school going to be enough? In the summer of 2021, God graciously answered our prayers by providing all our high school students the opportunity to choose from four different vocations that were of interest to them. The four options were: Phone repair, tiling, cosmetology, and decoration. We partnered with a local trade school, who had shown proof of successfully running a trade school, to create a curriculum. They provide the teachers to come to Starfish and teach our students. It is important for us to partner with local Haitians committed to their community, especially when empowering the greater community as our goal.  We believe in giving a hand-up so that one day our students will have the opportunity to become self-depended.  There are many reasons why a student might not finish their high school career but having the chance to learn a trade will potentially give them the tool that will provide future income for their loved ones.  As the Lord provides, our hope is to continue this program each summer by providing our students different options to choose from, such as welding, sewing, cooking, masonry and more.

The funds will cover teachers’ salaries, food, shirts, materials and end of program celebration.  Starfish will show its student how to “fish” Will you help us team them how? Will you partner with us to keep this program going each year?

Our sports ministry promote education, a healthy lifestyle, and Biblical principles. Along with regular school classes, these kids receive Biblical training, leadership skills and focus on how sports help foster community development. Volunteer teams can lead sports camps in soccer and basketball. We welcome training dancing and clinics in volleyball too. If you have a passion for sports ministry, please consider becoming a partner. Your support will help expand to other areas throughout our region, offer our coaches further training and education, and enable our athletes to serve in their community. This gift covers the cost of equipment, coaches, and food.
